St. Patrick's Day Parade

When: Sat., March 16, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. 2013

Today's St. Patrick's Day Parade will be awash in green hats, green scarves and green beer, but we often forget that the Irish flag has two other colors. While green is the color of the Emerald Isle, it's also traditionally associated with Catholics, just as orange is with Protestants. The white, meanwhile can be seen as a symbol of unity and peace between the two. Of course that last bit may still be as much an ideal as a reality, but why not send a message of hope by wearing all three? The Tejon Street event, featuring Wasson High School's Class of 2013 as grand marshals, kicks off at noon — and if the weather's kind, the sidewalks will get real crowded. There are also a bunch of related events, mostly involving running and bicycling, that you can read about at — Bill Forman
