Wrap and roll

Ladies and gentlemen, Takashi "Elvis" Kishimoto has entered the building.

Known for his Elvis impersonations, Kishimoto opened Sushi Ring (1861 S. Nevada Ave., 635-5550) in the former home of Wasabi Sushi & Grill this week. According to assistant Mike Lamendeoa, Kishimoto is part owner of a similar restaurant in Seattle, but wanted to open his own spot. He chose the Springs because of family living here.

"We scoped out [the location] as having a lot of traffic, and there was a restaurant there before, so that made it convenient," Lamendeoa says. "[Kishimoto] is well-experienced in making sushi, so I think we'll do pretty good."

All-you-can-eat lunch and dinner options cost $19.95 and $24.95 respectively.

Beavers turns blue

Big food news at the Blue Star (1645 S. Tejon St., 632-1086): Longtime chef James Davis has departed the kitchen, and former Sencha chef Brent Beavers has stepped in as his replacement. "We look forward to great things in 2010 and beyond," says Blue Star owner Joe Coleman.

Wintering over

Grant Family Farms (grantfarms.com/home.php) recently added winter fruit, vegetable and assorted bread shares to its offerings, which already include year-round egg and meat shares.

Coordinator Josh Palmer says the fruit and veggie shares consist of "storage variety" items like apples, pears, cider, potatoes, dried beans, wheat flour and cornmeal. A brewery for Woody P

A new source of suds is coming to Woodland Park. Led by brewers Jeff Aragon and Brian Horton from the now-defunct Trinidad Brewing Co., Bierwerks (tentatively located at 121. E. Midland Ave.) is expected to open in early spring with six full-time taps and rotating seasonal brews. Aragon plans to sell six-packs, growlers and kegs in addition to supplying local bars and liquor stores.
