Hells Eden CD release party The Black Sheep, 2106 E. Platte Ave. Friday, April 14, 8 p.m. $5, all ages; visit ticketweb.com.. With songs like "The Killing Spree," "Morbid, Maggot, Death" and "Maniacal Rape of Nuns," local rockers Hell's Eden probably won't be invited to play any proms or bar mitzvahs anytime soon.
Luckily, that's not their scene. One look at their Web site, hellseden.com, confirms the boys have one thing on their mind: rocking hard. Hell's Eden live, sleep and breath metal, as evidenced by the photos of band members in all their hair-whippin' glory, and sound clips of hyper-fast and heavy, guttural music.
According to growling frontman Richard "Snowball" Marcus, the group is influenced primarily by American and European death-metal bands like Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy and Lamb of God.
Other members include Jimmy "Corky" Ernst on rhythm guitar, Daniel "Mac Daddy" Fritsch on drums, guitarist Chris "Slave Driver" Trabucco, and bassist Greg Witwer, aka "Webmaster," which really isn't as much a nickname as it is a job description.
As for subject matter, Marcus says living in what he calls "the little Bethlehem of the United States" just adds fuel to their fire.
"None of us are Satanic or anything, but we all are really against religion. So, yeah, it's pretty easy to find stuff to sing about," he says.
