Frank Zappa Birthday Tribute Show starring Alan Joseph, Dwight Bement and Zoot Allures Cedars Jazz Club, 3125 Sinton Road, 578-5744 Wednesday, Dec. 21, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. $5 at the door.

Inspired by a Jerry Garcia Birthday Party show, Cedars Jazz Club's Alan Joseph (house guitarist) and Jason Miller (general manager) are putting a new spin on the tribute concept to honor Frank Zappa. In addition to Jana Lee and Randy Bowen of Cedars' house band, they've enlisted several guest musicians, including Dwight Bement (pictured), who played in The Blackouts with Zappa in the early '60s. Later, Zappa used Bement and other Blackouts members as muses for his song, "Let's Make the Water Turn Black." Hear Zappa stories, enjoy unpredictable drink specials, revel in the chaos and maybe even get your panties judged at Cedars' Frank Zappa Birthday Tribute Show this Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
