Who knew that some of the best rockabilly sounds would come from a place as innocuous as Lincoln, Nebraska? The Mezcal Brothers are among the Cornhusker State's pride and joy, giving all flash and no fizzle for the past six years. Following the longstanding legacy of liars such as the Righteous Brothers, the Mezcal Brothers aren't related at all. Led by painstakingly well-groomed frontman Gerardo Meza on vocals and rhythm guitar, they kick up enough bass thonking and greaser yowlin' to please even the most disaffected vintage fan. With titles like "Be My Bad Girl" and "Heat Up My Hotrod," songs from their 2004 album Next Town simply reel with sexiness. And "The Electrified Donkey" sounds like the kind of cocktail your momma warned you about. Let them rip up a peaceful weekend evening with a bucketful of originals and a smattering of covers.
