- The Riders
Thundering down from the pass and across the plains come The Riders, a front range favorite for over 20 years. Stabilized by founding members John Michael Steele (lead vocals), Jack Daniels (bass and vocals) and Dave Fractman (guitar, mandolin, banjo and vocals), the band has found a polished groove with the addition of drummer Jim Kerr and guitarist Eldon Moore.
"I saw the Riders about a year ago, just John, Jack and Dave, and when I heard those vocals I was just blown away. I knew I could play the drums so I got up there and we started jamming, and then the band got together and it's been great ever since," said Kerr in a recent phone interview.
Originally based in the sounds of such country-ish rock gods The Eagles, Crosby Stills & Nash, Dylan, and Little Feat, The Riders have recently benefited from new "alternative" influences.
"We're kind of a cross between Mannheim Steamroller and Echo and the Bunnymen," Kerr joked. Actually, the strong beats of '90s bands like Fastball and Matchbox 20 have begun to pepper the band's live repertoire.
While the styles may change, The Riders retain their amazing guitar work, quick rhythm, well-blended melodies and tight sound. They'll be playing all of their old favorites, as well as some new ones, at Laura Belle's St. Patrick's Day bash, Friday and Saturday nights. Call 630-7600.
