If good-times, old-time country and western with plenty of lap-steel yowl makes you wanna shake your groove thing, then you'll definitely want to sashay down to Benny's on Saturday night to check out Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams. A favorite on the Denver bar and music festival circuit, HWHB plays the kind of chicken-scratch rhythms that unearth the millet of a barnyard country that awaits only the most devoted poultry.

Formed three years ago, Halden Wofford (acoustic guitar, lead vocals), Bret Billings (steel guitar, dobro, harp and vocals), Kevin Yost (lead guitar, mandolin, vocals), Ben O'Connor (bass, vocals) and Eric Shiveley (drums) have torn pages from the songbooks of Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich and Lefty Frizzell to create a paste-up style that shimmies easily between old-school rockabilly, Western swing, folksy bluegrass and country ballads. With their stunning three-part harmonies thrown in, they've earned a sound that's, well ... American.

Wofford and his boys will have their brand-new, full-length CD with 12 original songs in tow. Come n' git it!
