A nurse and a writer, Benigno (Javier Cmara) and Marco (Daro Grandinetti), are thrown together when Marco's girlfriend, Lydia (Rosario Flores), a bullfighter, is gored and left in a coma. They meet at the clinic where Benigno works nursing Alicia, a young dancer who is also in a coma. They form an unlikely alliance and all four lives are thrown together leading to an unexpected destiny. A tour de force by Spain's most famous, and at times controversial, writer/director Pedro Almodvar.
