Meatless Mondays

When: Mon., Nov. 26 2012

What:

Five years ago, San Francisco was the first city in the nation to ban plastic bags. Earlier this fall, the New York City Health Department banned the sale of sugared pop and sweetened tea larger than 16 oz. at restaurants, mobile food carts, sports arenas and theaters. Now comes Los Angeles, whose city council just two weeks ago approved a resolution by 12-0 endorsing Meatless Mondays (meatlessmonday.com), making it the largest city to do so in the States. Whether or not you agree with how big government is getting involved, there's lots of research that shows how cutting back on meat in your diet can positively affect the environment as well as individual and community health. It's Monday, so give it a try maybe? — Kirsten Akens
