IQ: A mind is a terrible thing to waste

College seems to change the way people live. After at least four years of studying, partying and dating, there seems to be a synthesis of information that allows people to grasp something about life that you can't get anywhere else. OK, I'm green, I'm just a freshman, but what a ride it is already! I'm not 100 percent certain why I'm here, but I think it's to learn a certain amount about people, myself and how the whole big picture fits together. If I were a philosopher, I'd say the learned person is he who realizes how much more he has to learn, and looks upon that great unknown with eagerness and vigor.

What's the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in your dorm? Well, I went to school a long time ago, and there were still housemaids taking care of the rooms in the dorm. I tried to sneak my boyfriend into the bathroom and she knew without even having to look, somehow. So she busted us in the bathroom, basically.

What one thing should students never forget when they go to college? Have a good time. Enjoy yourself.

What advice do you wish you had followed when you went to college? To follow passions more. You know, passion in learning, passion in living. Not to be too rule-bound.

What will you always be a student of? Human nature.

What's the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in your dorm? I think it was getting caught with a fetal pig that my roommate and I had taken back to our dorm room so we could work on it.

What one thing should students never forget when they go to college? Well, since I have a daughter that's going to college right now, I just hope that they never forget their roots as they are trying their wings. And that they always have people that love them.

What advice do you wish you would have followed when you went to college? Not to sweat it so much. I did well in college, but there are times that I think I worried about things that I wish I hadn't worried about.

What will you always be a student of? I currently work with foreign students at PPCC -- I teach English to them -- so I will probably always be a student of people, things and foreign cultures.

What's the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in your dorm? I was playing putt-putt golf with the guys on my floor, and one guy used a driver and sent a golf ball through a fire-glass door.

What one thing should students never forget when they go to college? To be safe. A lot of people are pretty transient in the college environment. There's a lot of rapes and a lot of things that can happen. There's a lot of things that are taken for granted and I think safety is one of them.

What advice do you wish you would have followed when you went to college? Study harder. Study a lot harder -- take it seriously.

What will you always be a student of? History. World history, politics.
