"Images of Liberation: Photography of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement"

When: Tue., April 1, 7:30 p.m. 2014

The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was a key reason that civil-rights actions, like those of the Freedom Riders, happened at all, and as a member Maria Varela was right there to capture it all with her camera. Now comes "Images of Liberation: Photography of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement," an illustrated lecture from Varela, who has since been nominated for and won a MacArthur Fellowship "genius grant," among other honors. Her free talk begins at 7:30 tonight at the Worner Campus Center (902 N. Cascade Ave., coloradocollege.edu) at Colorado College, where she also taught. — Bryce Crawford
