Paul Lynde Halloween Special, This Filthy World, Ghost Hunters Live

font size="+1">Ghost Hunters: Live from the "Shining" Hotel (NR) - Big Vision Digital - If you were to scientifically investigate a supposedly haunted hotel, who would you bring along with your team? Maybe a noted scientist in the field of electromagnetic readings? A skeptic? Hell, what about a good old-fashioned psychic? Well, if you're the Ghost Hunters teams, you go for class and invite ECW wrestler CM Punk so he can "intimidate the ghosts." And while the investigation of Estes Park's notorious haunt does yield some spooky results (children giggling, tables moving, cold spots), it's all hard to take seriously when there's a wrestler offering his commentary on the proceedings. With a running time of a little over three hours (down from the broadcasted six!) it's quite a bit of overkill for very little payoff. Who you gonna call? Not these guys. Louis Fowler

John Waters: This Filthy World (NR) - Dokument Films / Release date: Oct. 30 - Aside from his always-hilarious cinematic sojourns into bad taste and depravity, John Waters is a noted raconteur, and his gifts for hilarious anecdotes and musings are wonderfully put on display here in the stand-up documentary, This Filthy World. On stage, he's more hilarious and insightful than most actual comedians. Watch him offer tear-inducing stories about teaching kids to shoplift and knock bikes over, share his pride in being deemed offensive by the Catholic Church and trying to explain such underground oddities as "blossoms" and "womb raiding." He's like the dirty uncle everyone wishes they had. DVD extras include an audience question-and-answer session that is worth the price of the disc alone. It's a filthy world indeed, and John Waters is our president. Louis Fowler

Paul Lynde Halloween Special (NR) - S'More Entertainment - Aired only once on Halloween in 1976, at the height of the ultra-gaudy, uber-cheesy, variety-show era, the Paul Lynde Halloween Special earns a special place not only in the pantheon of awesomely bad television, but also in my heart. See the hilariously catty Lynde as he trades barbs with the Wizard of Oz's Margaret Hamilton (aka the Wicked Witch) and H.R. Pufnstuf's Billie Hayes (aka Witchiepoo)! See former Brady Bunch mom Florence Henderson perform a disco version of "That Old Black Magic"! And, as if thrown in with no rhyme or reason, see hard-rock gods KISS perform three songs, including "Beth"! This disc is a video-burned, third-generation atrocity that truly has to be seen and made an integral part of your Halloween rituals. Louis Fowler
