Forbes' 2014 list of the world's richest people is out, and Philip Anschutz, owner of The Broadmoor resort and The Gazette, is said to be worth $10.4 billion derived from investments.

Topping the list is Microsoft mogul Bill Gates, with $76 billion. Others in the top 10 include Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett, with $58.2 billion, and the Koch brothers, worth a combined $80 billion from diversified assets.

Lest anyone thinks the media business isn't a good investment, the list contains about a dozen who made their billions that way.
