El Paso County Commissioners pose with an NRA spokesperson.
Continuing a long tradition of unabashed support for the National Rifle Association
, the El Paso County Commissioners today accepted a $3,500 donation from the NRA Foundation to the sheriff's budget.
Commissioners chimed in with thanks and praise for the NRA during the acceptance. Chair Dennis Hisey
noted he was a "lifetime member" and said to an NRA representative in the crowd, "I do attend your annual fundraising here and have a great time and usually come away with a trinket of some sort — some of them bigger than others.”
The comment elicited knowing chuckles.
Sheriff Terry Maketa took it a step farther saying, "The NRA is painted out to be this evil entity, but the reality is it’s a culmination of us, it is our community ... The NRA is the citizens of El Paso County; we are the NRA.”
