They've made year-end best-of lists in the New York Times and their hometown Chicago Tribune, been interviewed numerous times by Pitchfork and other indie-music tastemakers, and are coming to Colorado Springs next Wednesday to play an intimate downtown "living room show."

The name of the band is Califone, and their new album Stitch has earned raves from the likes of Pitchfork's Steven Hyden, who ended his review earlier this month with an assessment of the band's role in the current musical landscape:

In total, Stitches is exactly the sort of Americana record that can act as antidote for what’s happening in the genre right now. At a time when “hey!” folk has fully infiltrated rock radio, and made questionably bearded banjo players the guitar shredders of this generation, somebody has to stand up and represent how truly weird and wondrous this music can be. Stitches isn’t a record designed to bowl anybody over — It eschews easy Mumford-like payoffs. Like desert sand, it slowly washes over until it finally crushes you.

You and a few dozen others folks will be able to get your "hey!" folk immunization at Urban Steam this coming Wednesday. As of this writing, a small number of tickets are still available here.
