'Eat Your Art Out' in Monument

Heads up on a food-focused arts fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. next Saturday, April 13, at Monument Academy.

I'm telling you early because the organizers are aiming to cut ticket sales off on Monday, April 8 in order to give participating vendors a proper head count — so you've got this weekend to hit up MoZaic or The Parked Pierogi for a $10 ticket (and a meal while you're there).

As you can read in further detail here, the event will host a handful of local eateries including the two mentioned above and the likes of Broken Bones barbecue. It'll also provide non-alcoholic drinks such as Serranos coffee and Pikes Peak Brewing Co. root beer.

Guests will sample from each and then vote for a People's Choice winner, while I and a handful of other celebrity judges (their words, not mine) will pick a Judge's Choice victor.

Since the whole affair is designed as an arts fundraiser — "to raise funds, celebrate students' achievements in the arts and socialize in a friendly, safe and festive atmosphere" — there will also be performances by the student jazz band, choir and drama program.

There will also be a large art display and silent auction.

As part of that, we judges were invited to contribute any artworks of our own.

I haven't painted, drawn or worked with clay, etc. since high school art class, but I do consider myself a part-time photographer, or photojournalist of a sort.

So, here's my tease for earning your attendance at the event: I have contributed the following photograph from a not-too-long-ago voyage to Chile that will be up for sale in the silent auction.

Minimum bid: $500.

OK, not really. I don't know what they'll list it for, but I'd be content if even a small fraction of that number was met and somehow I was able to participate in the cause.

So, maybe I'll see you there.
