So, in February we wrote that Dickey's Barbecue Pit, that (apparent) bastion of Texas eating, was opening soon. Then we updated it in April to say that Dickey's was, uh, still opening soon. Well, guess what: Thursday, Dickey's is finally opening at 1466 Garden of the Gods Road #160, with hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“We are excited to finally be opening and are ready to become a vibrant part of the business community,” says co-owner Bob Rusnak in a press release. “The Colorado Springs community has been very supportive and has expressed their desire for home-style slow smoked barbecue.”
The restaurant says it's the world's largest barbecue chain, with over 250 locations in 43 states. The new opening will bring a free pulled-pork sandwich for the first 100 customers. Beforehand, an enthusiast — one of those "crazy Texans [who] can't wait for the first REAL BBQ to be in the Springs" — is organizing a camp out; e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if interested.
