Oh yes, it's El Paso County Fair time.

And what does fair time mean? Well, it means concerts, livestock and funnel cake. But it also means elected officials in wild, wild, west attire.

And though I love funnel cake (who doesn't?), I've got to say that this little tradition of unbridled fashion faux-pas is my favorite of the season.

Yippee ki-yay!

Weve got spirit, yes, we do! Whos got spirit? (Well for starters, the lady in the pink boots.)

In addition to this wonderful visual display (you can't stop staring, can you?), the county also provided some information about the fair. Read on:

Fair Queen Invites Commissioners to County Fair
The Fair Opens Saturday July 21 with Numerous Events

Colorado Springs, CO, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 – The El Paso County Fair Queen made the traditional annual visit to the Board of Commissioners meeting to invite Commissioners to “Fill up on fun and tradition” at the 107th County Fair, June 21 to 28, in Calhan.

Lina Betts, the 2012 El Paso County Fair Queen, said “Getting my hand stamped as I walk through the gate at the El Paso County Fair I catch the strong sent of funnel cake, turkey legs and kettle corn. Excitement runs through my body as the rides light up and the loud speaker booms with the announcer’s voice for telling the evening’s events. This isn’t even half the excitement of the El Paso County Fair. So put your boots on, grab the kids and get ready to fill up on fun and tradition at the 107th annual El Paso County Fair.”

Betts went on to list the numerous activities, events and special days at this year’s fair at the Fair Ground in Calhan, which includes the return of Colorado Professional Rodeo to the El Paso County Fair after several years absence. The open ceremony will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, which is also designated as military appreciation day with free admission for all active duty military and their families who present a military I.D.

CPRA Rodeo, A Special Opening Night Program at the El Paso County Speedway, Katie Armiger in Concert, Demolition Derby, Dog Rally & Agility Show, Petting zoo, Carnival, Dress Your Potato Contest, Homebrew Competition, Alligator Show, Miniature Horse Show, Gold Canyon Gunfighters, 4-H Exhibits, Military Appreciation Day, Dollar Day and 4-H Dance are just a few of the events happening at the 2012 Fair.

“Every year we get excited about the new things at the Fair,” Commissioner Chair Amy Lathen said. “I can’t wait for it. I’m looking forward to all the events.” Commissioner Dennis Hisey added, “Thank you for bringing the rodeo back.”

Betts, a student at Colorado State University, is the daughter of John and Birgitts of Colorado Springs.
