Photo tour of Detroit via AAN 2012 convention

Several of our staff at the Indy attended the Association of Alternative Newsmedia national convention in Detroit this past weekend.

Attempting to share all that we gleaned in a variety of education sessions over the course of three days would be difficult for a variety of reasons, and inside baseball ultimately.

What I do want to share is the view of Detroit outside of our convention hall that I was able to capture during a couple formal tours plus some runaround during my own free time.

All the images below were shot using my Android phone's Retro Camera app, which adds the vintage and rough effect.

I will say that for anyone doubting Detroit's future in the face of auto industry challenges and much more, you can see here that there is a vibrant revival underway and some wonderful artistic and cultural aspects to the city that grant it great wealth, still.

The architecture alone, in such gems as The Guardian Building, make the city well worth a visit.

Without further ado, view my slideshow here, or by clicking the photo below.

  • You can define Detroit without the automobile, but there's so much more to the city to see, including great architecture and world-class art.
