Former Colorado Springs Police Chief and Manitou Springs Interim Chief Richard Myers has a new gig — in Sanford, Fla., of all places.

Does Sanford sound familiar? It should. It's home to a now-infamous homicide — neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman's shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

Myers, a highly regarded police chief known for innovative strategies, was given the boot by Mayor Steve Bach, who hired then-Deputy Chief Pete Carey to replace him. Myers accepted the job as interim Manitou Springs police chief for the early part of 2012 while he looked for other work, and said he was proud of getting that office in order for Manitou's next chief.

Read on to learn about his new gig.
