Tomorrow evening, the Board of Education for School District 11 will be holding its monthly community-engagement meeting at Holmes Middle School, 2455 Mesa Road, from 6:30-8:30.

The district will hold these meetings at different schools throughout the district, to give the public and the board to engage in an informal discussion. According to D-11 spokeswoman Devra Ashby, the meetings tend to be free-for-alls.

Tonight, however, the meeting will be focused on two subjects: the budget and boundaries.

Both, says Ashby, are hot-button issues.

With Colorado being a "choice" state, every year parents are given the option to send their kids outside the boundaries of their neighborhood schools.

"We have several people in the Doherty [High School] area, primarily, who are concerned," says Ashby. That high school is at capacity, and every year during the choice process, parents will camp out to ensure that their kids get into Doherty.

"I have seen it, that people will line their tents up," she says. "I am hoping for an interesting conversation tomorrow."

If you aren't able to get out tomorrow night, but have some burning ideas/opinions/questions on these matters, let the board know by emailing communityengagement@d11.org.
