Colorado Springs has a brand-new, $111,000, highly personalized slogan and logo combo: Live it up!
Yes! Live it up! It's perfect, right? I mean, everything goes up around here: The Rockies, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, the Air Force Academy, our souls.
And yet for those of you from Battle Creek, Mich., it might seem a little familiar.
So, as outlined at the unveiling Tuesday by Experience Colorado Springs CEO Doug Price, the company that came up with the Springs' new slogan/logo combo spent months interviewing people and exploring businesses and organizations to find out more about the city.
As a video released Tuesday shows, people were stopped on the streets, at the airport, even in Manitou Springs, and longtime residents were interviewed, all to find the perfect way to express that ineffable something, that combination of the sounds, sights, smells, attractions, people, food, architecture, history, commerce, industry, cultural quirks — everything — that makes a city unique. And what did they find?
They found that the Springs is a lot like Battle Creek.
The Denver Egotist writes about our wonderful new slogan, pointing out that they had found "at least 7 other cities with the tag 'Live it up.' "
And it's not just cities that are attracted to the slogan, it also attracts the people who start websites about the cities they live in.
