You like them, you really like them!

Any suggestions that Colorado Springs folks are apathetic about the local music scene were dealt a blow as voting for the first annual Indy Music Awards closed last week. Although none of us was sure what kind of response we'd get, we were hugely impressed by the more than 2,500 ballots that came in over the course of the three-week voting period.

While this first year’s voter turnout exceeded all expectations, it's worth noting that your individual vote mattered more than you may think. Consider, for instance, the fact that in one category, whose five nominees drew a combined 1,250 votes, the third-place winner managed to edge out the next runner-up by a single vote.

And that one vote may well have been yours. Unless, of course, you never got around to voting, or were one of the fairness-challenged folks who ignored the prohibition against ballot-stuffing. (As promised, multiple votes from individuals were disqualified.)

So what happens next? We’ll be announcing all the winners in our Sept. 1 Local Music Issue. One week later, we’ll be hosting our first annual Indy Music Awards Festival at Stargazers Theatre & Event Center, a free celebration with winners performing on three stages. So keep Thursday, Sept. 8 open on your calendars, and we’ll looking forward to seeing you there!
