Yeah, things be distinctive up here.
  • Yeah, things be distinctive up here.

According to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Colorado Springs made the top 12 "distinctive destinations" in the country for 2011. Fellow cities include Chapel Hill, N.C.; Eureka, Calif.; San Angelo, Texas and Saint Paul, Minn.

Each winning city possesses "dynamic downtowns, cultural diversity, attractive architecture, cultural landscapes and a strong commitment to historic preservation, sustainability and revitalization."

Since 2000, the Trust has named 12 cities and towns per year for their Dozen Distinctive Destinations. Colorado's made the list several times before: Boulder, naturally, but also Fort Collins, Glenwood Springs, Crested Butte and Durango.

The Trust's blurb on C-Springs explains how our geological wonders and outdoor recreation opportunities are a draw, as is our "thriving arts and cultural scene." Sweet! What's more, there's not a single mention or caveat to the conservative/evangelical side.

Congratulations, us. Read more here.
