The El Paso County Department of Human Services will permanently close its Sand Creek office after business hours on Friday.
Starting Monday, Sand Creek clients need assistance in person must go to the DHS buildings on Spruce Street west of Interstate 25, the county says in a press release. New applications for service and questions about cases are handled at the DHS main office at 17 N. Spruce. EBT (food assistance and cash benefits) cards are handled in the DHS office at 105 N. Spruce.
The DHS Sand Creek Office, which is located off Murray Boulevard on thesSoutheast side of Colorado Springs, has a staff of 19 handling a current caseload of approximately 11,000 Food Assistance and Medicaid cases. Those employees will be the first to move to the recently acquired Corporate Ridge Facility Administration Building on Garden of the Gods Road. Initially, they will work on cases in the new facility but there will be no client visits at the Garden of the Gods facility until the entire department is moved out of the Spruce Street buildings and into the Corporate Ridge Facility early next year.
