The El Paso County Department of Health and Environment is making a seriously urgent effort to reach two people, apparently young adults, who dropped off an injured bat late Sunday night at the drop box of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

Here's the news release:

Health Department Needs to Contact People
Who Left Bat at Humane Society

The Health Department needs to make contact with the people who left a bat in the overnight drop box at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region on Sunday night, (Aug. 15.) The bat has been tested and found to be rabid. The people who left the bat, and anyone else who touched it, may have been exposed to rabies.

Those who left the bat at the Humane Society are not in trouble; The Health Department needs to contact them to protect their health. Rabies is a serious illness; it is almost always fatal after symptoms begin. Please review this surveillance video of two people leaving the bat at the Humane Society.

If you know these people, please contact the Health Department right away at (719) 339-3230. This number is monitored during business hours and after hours.

Here's the video as captured by the Humane Society's camera of the two people dropping off the bat on Sunday night:
