Two bits of green news:
First, attend the free Electric Vehicle Showcase hosted by the Southern Colorado Clean Cities Coalition from noon to 2 p.m., Friday, June 25, if you want to catch an electric vehicle demonstration. It'll be held at the El Paso County Department of Transportation (3275 Akers Road), and will feature a converted 1957 Porsche Speedster (pictured below), a charging station demo, electric bicycles and more.
Next up, check local grocery stores for a new, Canadian bottled water company called redleaf that's trying to break into our market. Part of that attempt involves giving local Albertsons customers a chance to win $50 gift cards and a trip to Whistler, Canada, valued at around $5,000. Enter here.
As for what makes the company green, the list includes a "zero waste" bottling process; an energy-efficient and chemical-free bottling facility that uses electric forklifts and recyclable pallets; a bio-fuel truck fleet; and bottles made partly from recycled plastic that are also 100 percent recyclable.
I'm mostly of the mindset to just carry your own stainless steel water bottle and avoid plastic altogether, but it's at least nice to have a better option if you're going to go the plastic bottle route. Especially if traveling and not having access to a good, clean source of water from which to refill your own bottle.
