Dog Days of Summer (Already)

It's great to barbecue up a hot dog. Not so great to let your pups roast in a hot car.

In light of this, when heading out to run a few shopping errands in the heat with your canine companion, perhaps you should consider the Promenade Shops at Briargate. The mostly chain store outdoor mall features dog-friendly shopping. Just look for a "Pets Welcome" sticker in all shops that, well, welcome your pets.

Locally owned Gloss is on the list, but so are such big boxes such as Pottery Barn, Banana Republic, and even Starbucks. Click here for a complete list of participating stores.

I've had mixed responses from shop owners downtown when attempting to bring my Boston terrier through their doors. Perhaps this would be a good time for the Downtown Partnership to take a hint from the chains and help identify pet-friendly businesses.

I promise: If you let me walk my pup through your stores, I won't let her dash through Uncle Wilber's Fountain until after we're done shopping.
