Scott Flanders isn't a household name to many, but he was the big cheese at Freedom Communications, Inc., owner of the Gazette in Colorado Springs, for five years.
But on July 1, 2009, he fled the floundering publishing company to join another floundering publishing company — Playboy. But at least there you get to see naked women.
Anyway, Flanders' latest ploy to build circulation, according to Reuters, is an eye-popper. The magazine announced this week that its June issue will come with 3-D glasses, to view the 3-D image of that month's centerfold.
Reuters reports: Playboy's Playmate of the Year, Hope Dworaczyk, can be seen like no centerfold has been seen before. Her offering of a glass of wine appears to come off the page, along with the rest of her.
HBO, a unit of Time Warner Inc., will pitch in on the cost of 3-D glasses included with the issue, which hits newsstands Friday. The goal is to reverse circulation losses, which have declined to less than 3 million from 6 million during the ’70s. Why not join the 3-D craze that made the movie Avatar among the biggest ever?
