From the frying pan to the fire?

Congratulations to Dean Toda, a former New York Times editor who in November was laid off by the Gazette for the second time. He's been named Andrew Romanoff’s press secretary in the former state legislator's campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by appointee Michael Bennet.

Toda, who handled Gazette coverage of the 2008 presidential race, including all those annoying visits from Sarah Palin, has gone from one of the most unstable businesses in the world (daily newspapers) to, well, one of the most unstable businesses in the world — politics. In fact, Toda is replacing John Schroyer, who was fired earlier Tuesday, formerly covered the state Capitol for the Gazette ... and is a friend of Toda's.

Toda was first let go from the Gazette a few years ago after working there as an editor. He was rehired in the late summer of 2008 to cover politics and was laid off again in November 2009 along with six other veteran news room employees. It's good to see this pro from Dover landing in a place where his knowledge and experience will be put to use.
