Beauty is Embarrassing

When: Thu., Dec. 6, 6 & 8 p.m. 2012

"My goal is to bring humor into fine art," says Wayne White in the trailer for the new documentary Beauty Is Embarrassing, which chronicles his journey to art-world stardom. White, who started off as a cartoonist in New York City and became a designer for Pee-wee's Playhouse, has since gone on to create iconic pop-culture art with a comedic edge: As he says, "I've worn a lot of different hats." Beauty will play for free at the Tim Gill Center for Public Media (315 E. Costilla St., tinyurl.com/bu6m86a) at 6 and 8 tonight. With a 92 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it could be good! — Celine Wright
