Fans of the Food Network's Iron Chef and those who support the best of local cooking will want to arrange now to take off work on the afternoon of March 4 when the Broadmoor Hospitality Expo hosts the "ultimate cooking competition," the "Champion de Cuisine." For six hours, eight of the region's top chefs will face off, demonstrating grace under pressure and their ability to improvise.
Contestants include chefs Chip Johnson of the Briarhurst, Brent Beavers of Sencha, John Broening of Primitivo, Paul Jensen of the Broadmoor, Michael Kline of the Broadmoor, Christian Bowie of the Villa at Palmer Lake, James Africano of The Warehouse and Christine Adrian of La Petite Maison.
An elimination tournament, the competition will start with eight chefs, then go down to four, and finally two. Each 1.5-hour session will feature a secret main ingredient to be unveiled just before the buzzer. Each chef will create three or four original dishes to be judged by a tasting panel on presentation, taste, use of the theme ingredient and originality.
Don't miss this chance to see Colorado Springs' own iron chefs in action.
