Adam's Mountain Café

Dining Description:

Best Of 2014: Restaurant for Herbivores

Best Of 2014: Neighborhood Restaurant: Manitou

How does that old slogan go? "New look, same great taste"? That seems to be the tenet that Adam's Mountain Café has followed since relocating from its flood-prone location in downtown Manitou to a drier, safer one in May. Farley McDonough and Co. have completely overhauled the old Manitou Pancake and Steak House, but kept intact Adam's list of great dishes — from Orange Almond French Toast in the morning to Spicy Malibari Curry at night. Seventy percent of those dishes are vegetarian, and in all, says hostess Valentina Kai, 95 percent of the menu can be made vegetarian-friendly with a little tweaking. Also worth noting: Though it's not quite walking distance from other downtown attractions anymore, the new Adam's offers ample parking. That's a neighborhood-pleaser. — Miguel Bustamante

Bites 2013: Christmas Mountain Falls

Yeah, the menu says Green or Red Mountain Falls, but locals know you can mix them to dramatic effect. Onto a bed of toasted polenta (yup — 'dem ITALian corn grits) capped in cheddar cheese come the vegetarian chilies garnished with scallions and tomatoes and cooled slightly by a dollop of sour cream. Get the added eggs your style (over medium, perhaps?) because the yolk adds another pleasing dimension. There you have it: Christmas year-round. ($7/$10.25 with two eggs).

I have loved Adam's since it was in the tiny little spot Mona Lisa now inhabits. I spent many Saturday mornings in front of a turkey burrito and sherry potatos at the community table making small talk with other locals in my teenage years. As they have grown in size, with their two later incarnations, they have continued to provide excellent service, superb, fresh and healthy food, without relinquishing that big table and the homey community feeling.

To me, Adam's is a place to go to eat and celebrate friends. Whether it's breakfast or lunch, I love sitting there with an endless cup of coffee, truly unique food options and gossiping with a good girlfriend (or 4!) A fun place to stop after an early morning hike in Manitou or to take a long lunch and share dessert! A small town, eclectic Colorado feel and flavors that delight. Nothing on the menu has disappointed but it's often hard to stray from my first favorites to even get to try anything else!

I can't get enough of Adam's Mountain Café. Sunday brunch means a tough decision between Orange Almond French Toast and Whole Grain Pancakes. At lunch I often pick the Rural Italian Lasagna. And for dinner? I try not to fill up on the Crostini with Figs and Pears app before selecting another veggie-heavy dish. Yum. Oh, and don't forget to order the Seattle Orange Spice House Tea--hot or cold, it completes the meal.

Great, unique food with many vegetarian/vegan options. Live music is pretty good. The patio in the summer is the best.
