Meat some chili at the Pioneers Museum

Since you're probably sitting at home celebrating the organized-labor movement — hah, Republicans — allow me to divert your attention to an important announcement: The second annual Carne Diem chili cook-off from VI Marketing and Branding comes to the west lawn of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. this Thursday.

"Grab a friend or a coworker for a quick lunch, live music, maybe even a beer — all for a good cause," reads a press release. "For $10 per person, attendees get three bowls to sample over 25 chilis and two votes for best amateur division chili. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to benefit [Project COPE as well as the museum]."

MacKenzie's Chop House won last year's inaugural event, which raised $1,200 for Venetucci Farm and the Pioneers Museum, and will again participate in the restaurant division — and compete for the Carne Cup — along with Jose Muldoon’s, Phantom Canyon Brewing Co., Cucuru Gallery Café, Coquette's Bistro & Bakery, Green Line Grill and La Casita.
