A founding principle of the Business Chamber of Southern Colorado was the belief that running a successful business begins and ends with business owners. I am convinced that business owners know the best choices to make for themselves to make their businesses grow and become successful and it is government meddling that creates the greatest obstacles for the hardworking and committed entrepreneurs to flourish.
The more I have represented the needs of businesses, whether through appearances at City Council or at the County level in front of the Board of County Commissioners, I see that creating a government that is truly responsive to the people and protective of the rights of businesses to prosper is going to take a fundamental change in the mindset of politicians. We are going to have to expend considerable effort in the electoral system to elect candidates that share our values and understand that the way small business moves is the way that the economy moves.
Although, we have been pushing back at every turn regarding onerous regulations, taxation, and government waste, I have seen the need for a broader fight that extends beyond this city and county.
People from across the state of Colorado are experiencing the same issues in their localities that we are experiencing here. Business people like you are experiencing the uncertainties that a highly regulatory local and state government brings to them. They are feeling the pinch of new fees while trying to remain competitive in their respective businesses.
Getting politicians to listen to us requires numbers, pure and simple. You voice becomes more powerful when combined with that of your neighbor and your neighbor's neighbor. Although, the Business Chamber has been growing, we need a bigger push to get your needs in front of politicians within
Colorado Springs, El Paso County, and also the state Capitol in Denver!
It is with this opportunity in mind that I have considered it in the best interests of the Business Chamber of Southern Colorado to become an executive team member of Colorado Small Business Rising, a statewide group that has been making inroads across the state in creating coalitions of business people around the idea of free markets.
With Small Business Rising as the directing organization, my resources, expertise, and overall reach will grow. Like the Business Chamber of Southern Colorado, they want to empower small business owners by representing them at all levels of Colorado government.
Be confident that I will continue to be actively representing your interests in Colorado Springs and El Paso County governments as an executive in Small Business Rising.
I believe this only enhances the value of your membership and increases your influence as business owners. I will still be attending coffees and afterhours to give political updates, as my schedule allows. I am always available to assist Business Chamber members.
Thank you so much for your time!
