Former Muddy Waters sideman Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith at the Crystola

As expected, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith tore up the Crystola Roadhouse last night with a revelatory performance of Chicago blues the way it was meant to be heard. I'll write more about the show in next week's Indy Reverb column, and you can read more about the former Muddy Waters sideman himself in our interview here.

Meanwhile, here's video of Smith performing his song "Nobody Knows" from the Crystola show. Be sure to listen for the phantom keyboardist hidden behind the stage PA; that would be Colorado Springs' own John Stilwagen, who so impressed Smith during an opening set with Big Jim Adam that the elder bluesman invited him to sit in with the band.
