Michelle Obama will be in Colorado Springs on Thursday as part of her national tour to support military families.
Mrs. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, on Tuesday will launch their national initiative to support and honor America’s service members and their families at the White House. The initiative will strive to educate, challenge, and spark action from all sectors of our society — citizens, communities, businesses, non-profits, faith based institutions, philanthropic organizations, and government — to ensure military families have the support they have earned, the White House said in a press release.
The two then will go on a two-day national tour to visit extraordinary examples of communities, businesses and nonprofits working to support military families. After stops in North Carolina and Texas, they'll make an appearance Wednesday at the Military Families Event at Coors Field in Denver where military families from across Colorado have been invited to watch the Rockies-Mets game on jumbo screens.
Entertainer Jessica Simpson will perform, and the Air Force Academy baseball team will stage a practice with the military children.
Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden on Thursday will visit the National Math and Science Competition at Fountain-Fort Carson High School, where military kids make up nearly half the student body.
This event will highlight the commitment to produce awareness about the unique challenges military children face and the need for advanced placement courses in math and science at schools serving military children. Joining in this challenge of kids versus parents will be special guest participants from the Discovery Channel program MythBusters.
